Community Service and
Impact Report
October - December 2023
The final quarter of 2023 was marked with ambitious projects at KNKX, demonstrating our regional impact and our commitment to connect listeners to jazz, blues, and NPR news. Our new studio in Seattle was home to ten studio sessions featuring today’s best jazz and blues musicians. And we covered a months-long trial in Tacoma, with broad implications across the state.
Jazz and blues artists settle in to “Studio X”
Studio Session recordings have been a signature feature of how KNKX connects listeners to unforgettable jazz and blues performances.
The new KNKX studio has received rave reviews from musicians and listeners alike, and dramatically improved our audio and video production.
Sharing video and specialty content from Studio Sessions supports station goals to reach new audiences online and beyond our broadcast signal.
In the last quarter of the year, KNKX opened its doors to listeners with nearly one studio session a week. These intimate concerts are then rebroadcast on YouTube and aired on “Studio Session Spotlight” every Friday night.
In Tacoma, the trial of three officers involved in the death of Manny Ellis concluded after many months of testimony.
KNKX reporters Mayowa Aina and Jared Brown led our coverage, and had the distinction of serving as the “pool” reporters for all radio journalism covering the trial.

Live music thrives
KNKX continues to feature jazz and blues musicians around the Puget Sound. We sponsored large regional events such as Earshot Jazz, concerts at jazz clubs, and our own signature events, including a show featuring Grooveyard host Stephanie Anne Johnson.. Together with Jeff Fielder, they performed live at the Blue Mouse Theatre as part of our KNKX Connects to Tacoma series in November.

Thank you for your support!
Thank you for being one of just a few balanced news sources that I can trust. Oh, and the variety of jazz and other programming are antidotes to just about anything!
